Dear JC1 students,

Welcome to Catholic Junior College

Congratulations on your posting to Catholic Junior College. I would like to extend a very warm welcome to you as you join the CJC family. My teachers and I look forward to guiding you in your educational journey to be Thinkers with a Mission and Leaders with a Heart.

ORIENTATION 2019 (1, 4, 7 to 8 & 11 to 12 February)

In order to help you settle in, we have specially organised an Orientation programme for all JC1 students joining the school. Your active participation in the Orientation activities will allow you to familiarise yourself with the college’s academic and co-curricular programmes, interact and bond with your seniors and other JC1 students. We look forward to seeing you at Orientation. Please take note of the following details:

  • Report at the college punctually by 7.30 a.m. for the flag-raising ceremony on Friday 1 February 2019. Check the display boards at the lower foyer for the Orientation Group (OG) and OG facilitators you have been assigned to.
  • Be appropriately and neatly attired in your secondary school uniform, and bring along a set of Secondary School PE attire. Please also ensure that your hair is neat and tidy. Dyed hair and multiple earrings are not allowed.
  • The flag-raising ceremony begins at 7.35 a.m. daily during Orientation. You are expected to be punctual for all activities and functions. Attendance will be marked at the beginning and end of each day. The Orientation schedule is found in Annex A.

The CJ college uniform is an important means by which you can express your belonging and pride to the college. The sale of our college uniform will take place in college during Orientation by Hong Kong Tat Kee Tailor. The P.E. attire, House T-Shirt and Dress-down Polo Shirt can be purchased from the college bookshop. The Orientation T-shirt will be collected on your behalf and distributed to you. More details are found in Annex B.

The details of the subject combinations offered to all new students in 2019 is available on our college website (https://cjc.moe.edu.sg/admission/subject-combinations-2019). Please study the requirements carefully so that you can make an informed choice on the most appropriate subject combination that can cater to your interests and aspirations. As part of the orientation programme, we will be providing more information on subject combination and the selection process to help you make an informed choice on your subject combination. There will be Subject Information Booths for you to obtain additional information and address your queries from 2.00 to 4.00 p.m. Your parents are welcomed to visit the Subject Booths with you. For parents who wish to have additional information on subject combination, there will be a Subject Combination Information Session for parents at 4.30p.m. in the Performing Arts Centre (PAC).

Please discuss with your parents before selecting your subject combination. You need to register your subject combination choices on the CJC online portal from 5.00 pm on 1 February (Friday) to 12 noon on 7 February 2019 (Thursday).

The annual Temperature-Taking Exercise will take place on 8 February 2019. You will be provided with a personal Oral Digital Thermometer (ODT) for this exercise.

MATRICULATION (13 to 22 February)

Matriculation for all JC1 students will commence on 13 February. During this period, you will attend the various lectures and tutorials in your assigned classes. Further details on Matriculation will be communicated directly to you after the classes are formed. You are required to purchase the SD Journal ($4.00). If you are taking Mathematics and Science subjects, you are expected to have a Graphing Calculator, which may be purchased at the Co-op at a promotional price of $170.00. (Annex C)

The Parent Information Evening (PIE) will be conducted either on 6 or 7 March evening, depending on the class you are allocated to. Once the classes are confirmed, a separate letter will be issued to parents detailing the session they are required to attend.

Students will undergo a StrengthsFinder workshop later in the year, as part of the Student Development curriculum in CJC, to help them understand themselves better, and to help to build on their strengths. The college will subsidise the workshop, and students will have to pay only $20. More details on payment will be given later.

Should you have further queries, please contact the General Office at 6252 4083.

We look forward to having you join the college and may God bless you and your family as you embark on an exciting journey of learning and discovery.

Yours sincerely,
Mrs. Phyllis Lim
