40th Anniversary Gala Dinner - Homecoming!
It was an unforgettable night for four decades of CJCians who celebrated 40 years of CJC as a junior college. The ballroom of the Fairmont Singapore was the venue for CJC’s 40th Anniversary Gala Dinner and alumni who attended experienced a night of revelry! There were 117 tables of alumni and staff members who spent the night catching up with one another, reminiscing about old memories and re-establishing strong bonds formed over time.
The evening’s programme, with alumna Ms Tan Kheng Hua as the emcee, began with an emotional singing of the college anthem by everyone in the ballroom. This was followed by the opening address by Mr Gerard Lee, the Chairman of the CJC School Management Committee. He spoke about the significant changes in CJC, including the refreshed crest, the college flag and the new mission statement, Thinker with a Mission, Leader with a Heart. In addition, Mr Lee referred to the coffee table book that was produced to celebrate 40 years of CJC’s achievements through the stories of more than 40 outstanding alumni who embody the college ethos. After the speech, the ‘Thinker with a Mission, Leader with a Heart’ Award was presented to three former Principals of CJC, namely, Sister Deirdre O’Loan, Sister Maria Lau and Brother Paul Anthony Rogers. Our current Principal, Mrs Christine Kong, then joined the three former Principals on stage to cut the anniversary cake.
The rest of the night unfolded with merry making as alumni looked for their former teachers, their former classmates and took many wefies for their photo albums against a backdrop of pop-rock performed by our talented alumni, such as ‘The 80s band’ comprising alumni from the class of 1986 and Gareth Fernandez from the class of 2008. A dance number was also put up by ‘Third Dance’, comprising alumni from the class of 1976. To close the evening, DJ Cyril Lim from the class of 1986 opened the dance floor with a mix of pop and dance music, which had alumni and staff members of all ages dancing to the beat!
It was indeed a night to remember and an exuberant conclusion of CJC’s 40th Anniversary Celebrations.
