Alumni Sports Fiesta 2016
In the wake of our 40th Anniversary Celebrations, the CJC Alumni Association, partnering with teachers from the school, planned our second Alumni Sports Fiesta. The idea to hold this event was seeded in 2014, as a way to bring back our alumni to have fun together and mingle, rekindling old friendships and building new ones as we grow our alumni community. This year, we managed to increase the diversity of graduating batches across all four of the sports: Touch Rugby, Football, Tennis and Captain’s ball. We had the joy of watching CJCians who have not seen one another since graduation reconnecting through playing the sport they love. Personally, I met my senior Rugby Team mates from 1998, guys who I hadn’t seen for 18 years, playing a sport we have never stopped loving. We also had football players from the current CJC team playing against CJCians from their fathers’ generation. And the FOOD! Thomas Thian (class of 1981) organised a whole group of alumni to set up a single stall selling satay, dry laksa, hotdogs and burgers to fuel the famished sports men and women at lunch time, adding mouth-watering smells to the atmosphere.
The day was long, and it was tiring, but we relished the opportunity to come together through sport and food and we went home with our hearts (and stomachs) very full. We hope that we can continue to bring more CJCians to join this yearly event to keep the CJ family spirit burning.
