Launched in 2008, the Inspiring Teacher of English Award (ITEA) recognises exceptional teachers of English Language, English Literature and General Paper. The award is presented by the Speak Good English Movement, in collaboration with The Straits Times, and supported by the Ministry of Education.

CJC is proud to have three teachers from the English Department who have clinched the award since its inception. Mrs Sng Mee Lian, who teaches English Language and Linguistics, was CJC’s first ITEA winnner. In 2013, General Paper Tutor, Ms Laureen Toh, was presented with the ITEA. This year, our third ITEA winner from the department is Mr Marc Kenji Lim, who teaches Literature in English.

Our 3 ITEA winners are part of a growing list of CJC teachers who are nationally recognised for their pedagogical excellence. These teachers are Dr. Wang Zhiwei (Inspiring Teacher of Chinese Award 2011), Ms Michelle Teo (Finalist, Outstanding Youth in Education Award 2011), Ms Nur Adhana (Most Outstanding History Teacher Award 2013) and Ms Melanie Lum (Finalist, President’s Award for Teachers 2015).

The teachers at CJC continue to inspire not just their students, but also each other, cementing a continued commitment towards Excellence in Teaching and Learning.
